2021 Ford Explorer

2021 Ford Explorer, utility and comfort

If you're looking for a new mid-size SUV for 2021, the Ford Explorer might just be your choice. This attractively sized vehicle offers three rows of seats and plenty of room for cargo. Utilitarian and versatile, it is equipped with the safety and comfort accessories among consumers most sought-after. The base and XLT models are equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive as standard, but all-wheel drive is optional. A hybrid powertrain is available as an option on the Limited model, and the Platinum and premium sport ST models are equipped with a twin-turbo V-6 engine. A 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive add to the Ford Explorer's qualities. There's something for everyone.

The improved XLT

Completely renewed in 2020, the Ford Explorer is not undergoing significant changes for 2021. It's the XLT version that improves the most, thanks to heated seats as standard, and by offering a heated steering wheel as an option on this model. A sporty-looking package is also available on this model. The other versions are not to be outdone, as an eight-way power front passenger seat is now available on Limited, ST and Platinum models.

Choice of power

Several versions also mean several engines. The Ford Explorer, therefore, offers a range of engines capable of meeting all requirements. For example, the base versions continue to feature the 2.3-litre 4-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Economical, this engine also stands out for its flexibility during acceleration. Two 6-cylinder V-engines are also on the Ford Explorer lineup. The first version develops 365 horsepower and is found under the hood of the Platinum. The ST version uses a variation of the same engine, this time a twin-turbo, for 400 horsepower. The Explorer Hybrid version pairs a 3.3-litre V6 with an electric motor for greater fuel economy without compromising power.

Safe with the CoPilot 360

The Ford Explorer is a family vehicle. Getting on board is easy, and even getting to the third row is no longer an adventure, thanks to the system that allows you to move the second row at the touch of a button. But when you think family, you think safety, and that's why Ford has added the CoPilot360 as standard on all versions. This onboard safety package includes Blind Spot Detection, Lane Guidance, Pre-Crash Assist and Rear View Camera. Other security options are also available as options. Ford Pass Access is also standard and allows you to remotely contact and even lock the doors using your smartphone.
